Nvidia RTX 2080 GPU release date, rumours, and performance

The next-gen Nvidia RTX 2080 has finally been officially announced, which means we’re getting ever closer to a whole new world of fresh-faced GeForce graphics cards. The next-gen Turing-based GPUs will launch on September 20, with pre-orders live right now… if there are any left.

It’s almost certain now that AMD will have to cede graphics tech supremacy to Nvidia for 2018 – without even putting up much of a fight – leaving the green team as the only GPU crew delivering us a new generation of graphics cards before the end of the year.

But Nvidia has opted to break the rules of iterative numerical nomenclature with its next-gen graphics cards in favour of a more bombastic marketing opportunity. No more shall we talk of 1180 cards, as Nvidia has announced its GeForce RTX 2080 Ti, RTX 2080, and RTX 2070 graphics silicon.

They’re all powered by the new Nvidia Turing architecture, built from the ground up for ray tracing performance. And will come as quite the GPU threesome when they launch in September, but they’re not going to come cheap, with the RTX 2080 and RTX 2070 taking up the old GTX 1080 Ti and GTX 1080 price points.
